As rain drenched many parts of Dhaka including the capital this afternoon, it gave the city dwellers a respite from the sizzling heat.
The Met office has also forecast rain and thundershowers in many parts of Bangladesh in the next 24 hours.
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department recorded 24mn rain falls in Dhaka occurred around 12:40pm.
Rain or thundershowers with lightning flashes and temporary gusty or squally winds are likely to occur at many places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions and at a few places over Khulna and Barisal divisions.
A mild heat wave is sweeping through Khulna division and Gopalgonj, Chandpur, Noakhali, Feni, Pabna, Rajshahi, Barisal and Patuakhali districts, and it may abate at some places, the Met said.
Meanwhile, the trough of low extended from Bihar to North Bay across West Bengal and southern part of Bangladesh persists.
The maximum rainfall was recorded at 59 mm in Maijdee Court in Noakhali. The day and night temperature may fall slightly over the country.
