Netrokona rail link disconnected

Due to heavy rain and worsening flood situation, the rail link between Shyamganj to Mohanganj station in Netrokona was disconnected on Saturday.
Md Miah Jahan, additional director general (OP), Bangladesh Railway, said, “We have suspended the railway connection between Shyamganj and Mohanganj railway stations of Netrokana from Saturday morning as the tracks are inundated and also been damaged in some other parts of the area”.
However, the suspension will be withdrawn once the overall situation improves, he told the Business Insider Bangladesh on Saturday noon.
A couple of trains have also been stranded at the Mohanganj station as operation in the station remain suspended, said Jasim Uddin Bhuyian, assistant director (operations) of Kamalapur Railway Station in Dhaka.
“Rail communications with other districts are uninterrupted, and we are follwoing alternative measures to shift the stranded trains to Mymensingh,” he told the Business Insider Bangladesh.
Meanwhile, the flood situation deteriorated in Netrokona. People of different upazillas were moving to the shelter centres. Nearly six lakh people have been marooned in the areas, according to media reports.
Around 16,000 flood affected people took shelter at the 188 shelter centres in six upazillas, Anjana Khan Majlish, district commissioner, told the media.
Medical teams were deployed in the affected areas, while the administration took necessary measures to tackle the situation, she added.
