Jitu placed on 5-day remand in teacher killing case

A Dhaka court on Thursday placed Ashraful Ahsan Jitu alias Jitu Dada on a five-day remand in connection with a case filed for killing his teacher Utpal Kumar with a cricket stamp.
Rajib Hasan, judge of Dhaka Chief Judicial Magistrate Court, passed the order after Emdadul Haque, inspector of Ashulia Police Station also investigation office of the case, placed him before it with a 10-day remand prayer.
Earlier on Wednesday evening, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Jitu, 16, a student of 10th grade in Ashulia Haji Yunus Ali School and College, from Sreepur in Gazipur.
“Jitu is an extremely unruly boy and leader of a local gang. He planned to attack his teacher Utpal Kumar as he was obstructed by him when he was in a romantic moment with one of a female students of the same school three to four days before the attack,” RAB Spokesman Commander Khandker Al Moin said, while addressing a press conference at its Karwan Bazar media centre in Dhaka on Thursday.
Jitu, hit Utpal Kumar with a cricket stump on June 25 and he met the end of life while undergoing treatment at Enam Medical College and Hospital in Savar on June 27.
During the primary interrogation, Jitu confessed that his uncle is the head of the managing committee of the school and taking the opportunity he tried to establish supremacy in and around the area, Moin told the reporters.
Utpal Kumar graduated from Chattogram University with a postgraduate degree in Political Science and joined Haji Yunus Ali School and College in Ashulia in 2013 as a lecturer in Political Science.
