PK Halder discloses names of influentials of Bangladesh, India

Loan scamster Prashanta Kumar Halder, known as PK Halder, who is now in Indian custody, has told investigators some of his associates’ names who are influential people in Bangladesh and India, according to a Kolkata lawyer.

PK Halder, a Bangladeshi-Canadian banker, has been facing a number of cases in Bangladesh and is wanted for swindling over Tk 3,500 crore from different banks and non-bank financial institutions.

The scamster made a confessional statement while he was being grilled by the Special Central Investigation Agency (CBI) under the court of Justice Jiban Kumar Sadhu in Kolkata on Tuesday.

The court also passed an order to produce him before it again on July 20th. PK Halder’s two lawyers Ali Haider and Somnath Ghosh were not present during today’s court proceedings.

It also extended the custody of PK Haldar and his five associates for 15 more days.

Enforcement Directorate (ED) lawyer Arijit Chakraborty later told the media that the interrogation of PK Halder and his associates revealed the names of many influential people of India.

The names of some influential people of Bangladesh also came out in his confessional statement and probably those people will also be in the charge-sheet, he said.

The charge-sheet will be placed before the court within some weeks, he said, hinting that it might be presented on July 20.

A case has been filed against Halder and his associates under Anti-Corruption Prevention Act 1988 and Prevention of Money Laundering Act 2002, Arijit Chakraborty said.

The ED, an agency investigating financial corruption in India, arrested PK Halder at North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal on 14 May. They also arrested five associates of PK Halder.
