A Dhaka court on Friday granted ad interim bail to Ron Haque Sikder, managing director of Sikder Group, in connection with a case filed for threatening top executives of Exim Bank in May last year.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Ashek Imam granted the bail to Ron after detectives produced him before the court this afternoon.

With a Tk 5,000 bond of two guarantors, the court granted the bail on humanitarian ground so that he can take part his father’s namaz-e-janaza. The court also fixed March 10 for next hearing of the case, a source at the court said.

Earlier in the day, detectives arrested Ron from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.

on a tip-off, a team of Police’s Detective Branch from Gulshan division detained him soon after he disembarked form a flight at the airport around 10am on Friday.

Ron came to Dhaka as his father Sikder Group Chairman Zainul Haque Sikder, 88, died at a hospital in Dubai on Wednesday.

Ron, also a director of National Bank Limited and his brother Dipu Haque Sikder left Bangladesh for Thailand by an air ambulance after being accused of threatening top executives of Exim Bank in May last year.

Ron has been shown arrested in connection with the case, DB source said.

While talking to the Business Insider Bangladesh, Iftekhairul Islam, assistant deputy commission (media and public relations wing) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, this noon said that Ron has been produced before a court in Dhaka in connection with the case.

Exim Bank Lt Col filed the case with Gulshan Police Station on May 19 last year against Ron Haque Sikder and his brother Dipu Haque Sikder, for allegedly torturing two top officials of the bank and firing at them over a Tk 500-crore loan.
