The government on Wednesday made a decision to cut around 25 percent of electricity consumption at all public offices across the country to save power and energy amid the ongoing crisis.

The decision was made during a secretary-level meeting on power and energy held at the Prime Minister’s Office in Dhaka in the afternoon.

The meeting also recommended holding official meetings online to cut the power cost. It also asked the authorities to avoid foreign trips if there is no emergency.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s Principal Secretary Ahmad Kaikaus told the media after emerging from the meeting.

The meeting also reached a decision to keep the temperature of air conditioners being used everywhere between 24 and 25 degrees Celsius.

About power consumption at educational institutions, he said the education ministry will make a pragmatic decision in this regard.

Meanwhile, the guardians of the schoolgoing children have been asked to use public transport avoiding personal vehicles to make the efforts a success, Kaihaus said.

The issue of price hike of daily essentials was discussed during the meeting and all the discussants recommended conducting mobile court on regular basis to keep the commodities market in a stable state, he said.

About the UN warning on possible global food crisis, Kaikaus said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina asked all secretaries to remain alert so that not a piece of land is left uncultivable elsewhere in the country.

He said the government is putting importance on building food stock and the National Board of Revenue has been asked to take necessary measures in this regard.
