The country is now experiencing around 2,000 MW of load shedding on an average per day, after the government announced the area-wise planned power cuts from July 19.

“The power disruption is temporary matter. We will revise the plan after a week or 10 days of observation. We are looking for an alternative market to buy fuel at cheap rate,” State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, Nasrul Hamid told reports on Friday.

The country’s only 10 percent of diesel is used for power generation and the 90 percent is used for irrigation and transportation, the junior minister said.

Following a high-level meeting at the prime minister’s office on July 18, Prime Minister’s Energy Adviser Dr Tawfiq-e-Elahi Choedhury announced the Bangladesh government’s plan to resort to two hours of power cuts daily in each zone to tackle the energy crisis affecting electricity generation in the country.
