Over 1.2cr people live in capital Dhaka: BBS

Over 1.2 crore people currently live in the capital Dhaka and of them, around 59,79,537 people live in Dhaka North and 42,99,345 in Dhaka South City Corporations area, said Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) report on Wednesday.

According to the statistics, a total of 1,02,78,882 people live in the capital Dhaka, the BBS said in its report revealed during a programme at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in Dhaka.

Besides, over 4,42,15,107 people live in Dhaka division and of them, around 2,24,59,822 are men while around 2,17,21,556 are women.

The number of transgenders in the division is 4,577, said the report.

There are 12 city corporations in the country and of which the largest number of people now live in Dhaka North City Corporation, it said.

On the other hand, the least number of people live in Barishal City Corporation and its total population is 4,19,651.

Hossain, project director of the BBS, released the primary report while Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, State Minister for Public Administration Farhad Hossain, Planning Minister MA Mannan and State Minister for Ministry of Planning Shamsul Alam, among others, were present at the function.

The population and household census began on June 15 and continued till June 28 across the country.
