Chief of Bangladesh Army Staff General Aziz Ahmed on Tuesday termed a recent report connecting him published by Al Jazeera, a Quarter-based news channel, as false and fabricated.
“Conspiracy over Bangladesh Army is being hatched. People have rejected Al Jazeer’s fake and ``fabricated report. Ministry concerned will take legal steps against Al Jazeera,” General Aziz said while addressing a programme organised by Army Aviation at Tejgaon in the capital Dhaka.
Aziz said, “Army is a pride of the country. We are respectful to the constitution and all the chain of commands in the army are alert over the issue. Nothing will happen by carrying out such propaganda.”
Responding to a query, the army chief said he was aware of what needed to be done to uphold the image and dignity of the army. “What Al Jazeera has done is completely motivated.”
About footage during his foreign trips published in the Al Jazeera report, titled “Al the Prime Minister’s Men,” Aziz said he did not use any official protocol during his family tour abroad.
“A vested quarter captured the footage deliberately to tarnish the image of the chief of army staff. I am careful so that the image and dignity of the army and the government is not tarnished by any means.”
“Conspirators made the footage with cut-pieces. Their motive will never be successful anyhow.”
Earlier on February 2, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) in a press statement strongly protested at the report saying that a certain quarter did this with a motive to halt the development of Bangladesh.
Besides, the ISPR on Tuesday also issued a press statement formally protesting Al Jazeera’s report describing it as a blatant lie.
The report has been published compiling some untrue, fabricated, speculative and unsupported information in a bid to make Bangladesh government, its army chief and people controversial and unacceptable before the world, the ISPR said.
