Nagad, the digital financial service arm of Bangladesh Post Office, has filed a case with a Dhaka court against 10,000 unknown people for their alleged involvement in spreading out rumors against it.

Nagad filed the case with Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court on Thursday seeking action to this end, an office of the digital financial service told the Business Insider Bangladesh this noon.

The court, taking the case into cognizance, asked the Police Bureau of Investigation (PIB) to investigate the matter and submit a report by April 20 this year.

In the case statement, Nagad said around three lakh leaflets and videos containing the report published in Quarter based news channel Al Jazeera have been distributed among the Nagad agents across the country for the last few days.

A certain quarter is trying to destabilise the government and its different organisations by dishing out rumors, it said.

The vested quarter have engaged around 10,000 activists to carry out the propaganda and they are distributing the leaflets maintaining secrecy and policy like a banned outfits, the case statement read.

While talking to the reporter, an official of the Nagad said they have collected a huge number of the leaflets and video through their agents.

It is a direct threat to the digital financing service as the Nagad agents have already lost their confidence in investing in the business, the official said.

Earlier on Wednesday, the High Court asked Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) to remove the documentary published in Al Jazeera from all social platforms including Facebook, YouTube and Twitter.

And in complying with the HC directives, the BTRC on the same day also wrote to the Facebook, YouTube and Twitter authorities to take step in this regard.
