A week-long special drive to control the dengue outbreak across the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) area will be kicked off on Sunday.
DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam came up with the announcement during an awareness-building campaign against the Aedes mosquito in Uttara area of the capital Dhaka on Saturday.
The drive will be conducted by separate teams in every 10 zones under the DNCC, said the mayor.
Mobile courts led by executive magistrates will take immediate legal action upon finding larvae of the Aedes mosquito at any place in the city area, he said.
“This year, the number of dengue patients is lower compared to the previous years and it is also lower than that of the neighboring countries. The dengue situation remained under control as we took effective measures,” Atiqul said.
The DNCC mayor also visited Ward No.50 as according to the Directorate General of Health Services, the number of dengue patients was higher in the area in recent times.
During the visit the owner of an under-construction building in the ward was fined Tk 1 lakh by a mobile court after it detected Aedes larvae there.
During the campaign in Nikunja area, two cases were filed with Khilket Police Station against two building owners after finding the larvae there.
