Sheikh Rehana receives Covid-19 jab

Sheikh Rehana, daughter of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, on Wednesday received her first shot of the coronavirus.

Rehana, also younger sister of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, took the vaccine at a hospital in Dhaka around 9:30am, Hasan Jahid Tushar, deputy press secretary to the prime minister, told the Business Insider Bangladesh.

Hasina inaugurated the pilot Covid-19 vaccination drive on January 27.

Later, Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque inaugurated the mass inoculation campaign across the country on February 7.

Some 36, 43,259 people registered their names for getting their jabs from January 27 to February 22, and a total of 23, 08,157 have so far been vaccinated.

Of them, 15, 18,715 were male and 7, 89,442 were female recipients, Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque said on Tuesday.
