7 persons get death penalty for killing Mymensingh AL leader

Seven people have been sentenced to death in connection with a case for killing Masudur Rahman Shuvro, general secretary of Swechchhasebak League’s Gouripu Upazila unit in Mymensingh.

Three others have also been given life imprisonment in the same murder case. Justice Monir Kamal of Dhaka Speedy Tribunal-3 pronounced the verdict on Monday.

The death row convicts are Mailakanda UP Chairman Riaduzzaman Riyad, Gouripur Municipalty Chhatra Dal Joint Secretary Sakib Ahmed Reza, local Swechchhasebak Dal leaders Mozammel Haque, Khairul Islam, Main Uddin, Ruhul Amin and Shariful Islam Nayim.

Masud Parvez Curzon, Chatra Dal member Shariyatullah alias Shumon and Jubo Dal member Russel Miah have also been given life-term imprisonment.

Shuvro was chopped to death by a group of miscreants in Gouripur Madhybazar area on October 17, 2020.

Abdur Rahman, the younger brother of the victim filed a case Gouripur Police Station against Mailakanda Union Chairman Riyad and 18 others.

On completion of the investigation, police submitted a chargesheet against 19 people based on evidence in this connection on April 27, 2021 and the court framed a charge against the accused on January 26.
