RMG workers block a road in Arambagh for wage

Readymade Garment (RMG) workers blocked a road in Arambagh area of Dhaka on Tuesday demanding their wages and protesting the shifting of the factory to somewhere else.

The authorities of a factory named Olio Apparel Limited located in Kamalapur area shut down their operation without issuing any prior notice and paying the due wages of the workers, according to the agitated RMG makers.

Meanwhile, the authorities have started shifting their factory and sensing the hasty move, a number of RMG makers thronged the road around 8:30 am and halted the movement of vehicles on the road, causing a huge traffic jam in and around the area.

400 to 500 workers of the factory staged a demonstration in front of the BRTC bus depot near the Kamalapur Railway Station to press home their demand.

Around 1:00 pm the protesting workers were seen staging a demonstration that extended up to Notore Dam College from Kamalapur Railway Station, FM Bajlur Rashid, assistant commissioner (traffic-Motijheel zone) told the media.

However, police are trying to take the situation under control for the sake of smooth traffic movement.

The protest was going on till filling of the report around 1:30pm.
