BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has blamed the ruling Awami League for its failure in upholding the manifesto of the country’s Liberation War and called upon people to join a fight for restoring democracy in the country.
People took part in the Liberation War in 1971 with a hope and aspiration but the ruling Awami League shattered the manifesto and commitment of the war soon after its end, the BNP leader said, addressing as chief guest a programme in Dhaka on Wednesday.
This very party snatched people’s all rights by introducing a one-party rule, suspending publication of all newspapers except four after the Liberation War, he said adding that the same situation was prevailing now across the country.
“We participated in the war with a spirit of establishing a democratic country. Please come forward with the same spirit to join a fresh fight to protect the people’s rights,” Fakhrul said.
ASM Abdur Rab hoisted the flag of the independent Bangladesh first and Shahjahan Siraj read the manifesto of Bangladesh independence on March 2 and March 3 in 1971 respectively.
part of the party’s programme marking the country’s golden jubilee, the BNP organised the programme at the National Press Club.
Fakhrul said, “It is the BNP not the Awami League knows how to pay due respect to the people who played a vital role during the country’s Liberation War.”
