9 Bangladeshi students secure top score in Cambridge International exams

Nine students have won the top positions in the world in Cambridge Assessment International Education (Cambridge International) for their outstanding performance in this year’s Cambridge examination series.

Cambridge International has conferred an impressive 90 Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards to Bangladeshi students.

Some 71 students in Bangladesh have received prestigious awards for their exceptional performance in the Cambridge exams in June 2022.

The awards recognise success in four categories –Top in the World, ‘Top in Country High Achievement Award and Best Across.

The nine Bangladeshi students have won the Top in the World award which is the highest mark in the world in a particular category.

Apart from the 9 winners, seven students have won the award for their outstanding performance in maths.

The students have achieved awards in a range of individual subjects across Cambridge IGCSE, Cambridge O Level and Cambridge International AS and A Level qualifications.

The ceremony was graced by the presence of Yeafesh Osman, minister, the Ministry of Science and Technology as the chief guest and HE Robert Chatterton Dickson, British high commissioner to Bangladesh as the special guest.

David Knox, acting director of British Council, Lee Davis, director of Teaching and Learning of Cambridge International, Zunayed Ahmed, director of Examinations operations of British Council, and Shahin Reza, country manager of Cambridge International, among others, were present at the event.

In his speech, Yeafesh Osman said, “Your achievement in the Cambridge examination is the real testimony of your hard work and your ability to compete at the global level. I believe that you would go to the top-class universities in the world in the future with the qualifications.”

“I would like to remind you that we have earned our independence at the cost of three million lives. So, you must not forget your obligations to your motherland.”

Robert Dickson said, “It is remarkable to see people here, winning the best in the world awards. It shows the talent and ambition that exists in Bangladesh.

This is an important part of the overall relationship between the UK and Bangladesh. There is a strong relationship in all fields, including education, culture, economics and trade.”

“There are more than 600 thousand people now living in the UK and they are contributing to our society. I am pleased as I have become able to double the number of Bangladesh students in the UK during my tenure,” he said.

Lee Davis said, “A Cambridge education is about supporting schools to help the students become confident and responsible to fulfill their potential. We also thank all the teachers and parents who supported and guided the learners through their studies and helped them achieve such success.”

Every year nearly a million students worldwide study courses organised by Cambridge International, which has been providing international exams for more than 160 years.

The program was jointly hosted by Cambridge International and the British Council, Bangladesh.
