Cabinet approves Bangladesh-Libya MoU over sending workers to Mediterranean country

The Cabinet on Tuesday approved the Bangladesh-Libya memorandum of understanding (MoU) to regulate the movement of workers from Dhaka to Tripoli.
The MoU titled “Joint Cooperation in the Field of Recruitment of Workers,” awaits signing by respective authorities of both the countries soon, new Cabinet secretary Kabir Bin Anwar told journalists after the cabinet meeting.
He said the Bangladeshi workers will be recruited by Libya through an official process which will open a new horizon for the local workers. Currently, Bangladeshi workers are being recruited by private agencies.
The cabinet secretary also said the Libyan government will provide support and cooperation to the Bangladesh government over employment by the oil-rich African nation.
The minimum wage will be determined by both of the governments, Anwar pointed out.
The Cabinet secretary said, “We are working with Libya to prepare the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the ministries of labor of the respective governments and the MOU is supposed to be signed in Tripoli, the capital of Libya.
