The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) on Monday reduced the liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) price by Tk 65 per 12-kg cylinder and now the price stands at Tk 1,232.

BERC Chairman Abdul Jolil announced the revised price during an online meeting on Monday and said the new price will come into effect from 6pm from today.

Earlier, the BERC increased Tk 46 and the consumers had to pay Tk 1,297 for a 12-kg LPG cylinder.

On April 12, 2021, the BERC fixed the LPG price for the first time in the country and since then, the LPG price has been adjusted by the commission every month.

Jolil said the LPG price at government level consumers has been kept unchanged while the price per kg of LPG has been fixed at Tk 102.70 at private level consumers.

Besides, the price of per litre auto LPG gas (used in motor vehicles) has been fixed at Tk 57.41 against the previous price of Tk 60.41.

LPG prices for other sizes of cylinders – from 5.5kg to 45kg – will go down rationally, he said.

The LPG price went up to the highest, Tk 1,439 (per 12kg cylinder), in the local market, against the backdrop of the Russia-Ukraine war in February last year.

LPG price in Bangladesh was the lowest at Tk 1,225 for a 12kg cylinder in January last year and it experienced spontaneous hikes in February, March and April in 2022.
