Dipu Moni urges women to contribute more to economy

Education Minister Dipu Moni

Education Minister Dipu Moni on Monday urged women to further step forward for taking the helm of the country’s economy.

“Not only in Bangladesh but also women had to take a great role across the world in dealing with the Covid-19 cases as wage-earners, leaders, educators or others and now they should march forward to take the helm of the economy,” she said.

The education minister came up with the call while addressing a programme of female chartered accountants in Dhaka, marking International Women Day on Monday.

The ICAB Women Members Empowerment and Leadership Development Committee organised the programme at the CA Bhaban in Karwan Bazar area of Dhaka, which Dipu Moni graced as chief guest.

“We have already made much progress in economy and human development indicators under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina when we are heading to celebrate the 50 years of our independence,” she said.

Mentioning her government’s steps for empowering women, Dipu Moni said, “We are now passing through a very critical time since March of 2020. Our education institutions are still closed and the sector is affected severely. However, we have undertaken a detailed plan to overcome the loss.”

Describing the chartered accountant women as a role model in the society, she said the country’s women society is being shown the right path to move forward towards the leadership role and reduce the gender gap in future.

Welcoming address, ICAB President Mahmudul Hasan Khusru said though women are facing numerous challenges, they are still going forward.

Their contribution to society as well as in the country will help fulfil the sustainable development goals, he said.
