PM inaugurates Abdul Hamid Cantonment in Kishoreganj

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday inaugurated the newly constructed Abdul Hamid Cantonment very near to ancestral residence of President Abdul Hamid in Mithamain upazila of Kishoreganj.

The prime minister inaugurated the cantonment built on around 275 acres of land around 11:30 am and she planted a sapling tree in the cantonment area on this occasion.

Earlier, she reached Mithamain by helicopter around 10:55 am.

Local people said the prime minister last visited Mithamain 25 years ago when there were no roads or transport available in the area, nor any infrastructure or development projects.

However, in the past 14 years under the Awami League government, extensive development took place in the region, including the construction of roads and highways.

The prime minister will visit President Abdul Hamid's residence and will have lunch there. Later, she is scheduled to join a public rally to be held on the Mithamain Sadar Helipad ground around 3 pm.

The prime minister last visited Mithamain in 1998 when Abdul Hamid was an Awami League lawmaker from the Kishoreganj-4 parliamentary constituency and deputy speaker of the parliament.
