Mirpur-10 Metro Rail station opened for commuters’ use

The government opened the Mirpur-10 station of Metro Rail to the public on Wednesday, nearly two months after the inauguration of the country’s much-awaited metro rail.
With this, five Metro Rail stations out of nine have been opened to the public, so far.
According to the Metro Rail authority, the train can now pick up and drop off passengers at Mirpur-10 station.
The government started the operation of Metro Rail services on December 28 last year on a limited scale, and there was no stoppage between Uttara North and Agargaon stations.
The government began the operation of the metro rail for the public on December 29.
Later, the government opened Pallabi and Uttara Centre stations on January 25 and February 18, respectively.
Four other stations -- Uttara South, Mirpur-11, Kazipara and Shewrapara -- will be opened in phases, according to the Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) authorities.
According to a study report, around 23,000 people are now living in every square kilometre of the capital city, which has 306 square kilometres. As a result, traffic congestion is a common phenomenon in the city.
The journey of the Metrorail will add a different dimension and pace to the transport system of Dhaka metropolis alongside saving the working hours of city dwellers.
After assuming power in 2009, the Awami League government took various initiatives to reduce the pressure on the capital. Initiatives were taken to build metro rail across the capital to ease traffic congestion, according to the project details.
