Condolences pour in for Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury

With the death of Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury, the country has lost a valiant freedom fighter and a noted public health expert.

Soon after his death around 11pm on Tuesday at the age of 81, condolences and tributes continue to pour in at the death of one of the leading civil society figures in the country.

In a condolence message, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed her deep shock and sorrow and said Dr. Zafrullah’s contributions to the great Liberation War, the country’s pharmaceutical industry and the public health sector will be remembered.

On information, Foreign Minister Dr. AK Abdul Momen also expressed profound shock and sorrow at his death.

Dr. Momen, who is now on an official visit to the USA, in a condolence message prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.

Recalling his contribution to the founding of the Gonoshasthaya Kendra (GK), the first private hospital in independent Bangladesh, the foreign minister said, "Dr. Zafrullah Chowdhury had worked his whole life to make health care easier for the common people."

Awami League Advisory Council Member and Central 14-party Coordinator and Spokesperson Amir Hossain Amu, Agriculture Minister Dr. Muhammad Abdur Razzaque, Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Md Shahab Uddin, State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury and State Minister for Labour and Employment Begum Monnujan Sufian also expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of Dr. Zafrullah Chowdhury.

Besides, different political parties including BNP and its like-minded parties, professional bodies, and socio-cultural organisations expressed their deep shock at the death and sought eternal peace of the departed soul.
