5 more dengue patients die in last 24hrs, this year’s death toll reaches 93

Five more deaths were reported from dengue in the last 24 hours till Thursday morning, taking this year’s death toll from the mosquito-borne disease in the country to 93 so far.
During the period, 1,239 more patients were hospitalised with the viral fever, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said in a handout.
Of the new patients, 756 were admitted to hospitals in Dhaka and the rest outside it, said the DGHS.
A total of 4,069 dengue patients, including 2,708 in the capital, are now undergoing treatment at different hospitals across the country.
The DGHS has recorded 17, 382 dengue cases and 13, 220 recoveries in 2023.
The health authorities recorded 281 dengue deaths in 2022, the highest on record after 179 deaths in 2019.
The DGHS also recorded 62,423 dengue cases and 61,971 recoveries last year.
