Saree made from banana plant fibre gifted to PM Hasina

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina received Kalabati sarees and handicrafts made from banana plant fibre on Monday.

Bandarban Deputy Commissioner Yasmin Parveen Tibriji handed over three sarees and two jewellery boxes to the prime minister at the cabinet room of her office in Dhaka, BSS reports quoting a press release

For the first time in the country's history, Tant designer Radhabati Devi of Moulavibazar district prepared this Manipuri design saree from the fibre of the banana tree, while Anjali Devi and Dutta Singh made the three sarees gifted to the Prime Minister, added the release.

Besides, a model of special "machang house" of residential shelter in the hilly areas, district brand calendar and brand book were also presented to the Prime Minister by the Deputy Commissioner of Bandarban.
