Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is likely to partially inaugurate the third terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on October 7.

Air Vice Marshal Muhammad Mafidur Rahman, chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB), said this while addressing a press conference held at the under-construction third terminal of HSIA on Tuesday.

However, the passengers will be able to fully use the third terminal at the end of 2024, he said.

“We want to complete 90 percent of the project work before October 7, he added.

The three-storey terminal building is being built over an area of 542,000 square meter having a floor space of 230,000 square meters with 115 check-in counters, 64 departure and 64 arrival immigration desks, respectively.

The world-class terminal equipped with modern amenities will provide all services under a single roof, ensuring seamless operations and comfort to the passengers.

The import cargo complex will be 27,000 square meters having a capacity of handling 273,470 tonnes per year.

The export cargo complex, with an area of 36,000 square meters, will have a capacity of 546,941 tonnes annually.

Besides, the parking space can accommodate 1,230 vehicles at a time.

The terminal will have 27 baggage X-ray screeners, 11 body scanners, 25 central departure security screening, 12 boarding bridges, and 16 luggage belts.
