Dengue claims 8 more lives, infects 2,889 in 24hrs

Dengue claimed eight more lives and infected 2,889 persons across the country in the last 24 hours till Thursday morning, according to the health department.
With the latest deaths, this year’s total deaths from the mosquito-borne disease mounted to 875 and the caseloads to 17, 9,699 as of Thursday, according to a handout of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Of the fresh casualties, one dengue patient died while undergoing treatment at different hospitals in the capital Dhaka and the rest seven outside it.
During the 24 hours period, 789 were admitted to different hospitals in the capital Dhaka and 2,100 patients outside of the capital, said the DGHS.
A total of 10,280 dengue patients are undergoing treatment at different hospitals across the country. Of them, 3,696 are in Dhaka while 6,584 are outside of the capital Dhaka, it added.
The authorities have recorded the highest number of dengue positive cases outside Dhaka in August this year meaning the mosquito disease gripped the entire country.
August witnessed 71,976 dengue positive cases, the highest number of cases in a single month since the dengue outbreak began in 2000 in the country.
July alone recorded 43,854 dengue positive cases with 204 deaths. As of September 11, the health authority recorded 27,464 dengue positive cases while 148 deaths from the mosquito-borne disease during the same period.
