CEC`s comparison of BD election with US` is ridiculous: Fakhrul

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today termed Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda’s comparison of Bangladesh election with America as ridiculous.

“The CEC says the USA can’t publish polls result in five days while we (EC) can do it in five minutes. It is blatant ridiculous,” Fakhrul said while addressing a programme at the National Press Club in Dhaka this noon.

“You (CEC) can publish election results in five minutes as because the results are predetermined,” the BNP leader said adding that the constitutional body has been turned into an incapable institution.

Referring to the recently concluded United States election, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has asked both the government and the Election Commission to take a lesson from the US presidential election.

In response to the call CEC Huda said, “The USA can’t count votes in four to five days while we count it in four to five minutes. So, the United States needs to learn from us.”

BNP announced two-day demonstration programme from today protesting the irregularities took place during the by-polls, of Dhaka- 18 and Sirajganj-1 parliamentary constituencies, held on November 12.

The programme was also announced protesting the arrest and imprecation of BNP leaders and activists in false and politically motivated cases centering the elections.
