SAARC secretary general calls on Pakistan prime minister

Muhammad Golam Sarwar, secretary general of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), paid a courtesy call on Pakistan Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad on Tuesday.
The prime minister congratulated Sarwar on his appointment as the 15th Secretary General of the SAARC, a press release said here on Tuesday.
He also expressed hope that the SAARC secretary general would play a pivotal role in revitalising and strengthening the organisation.
It may be pointed out that the secretary general is a Bangladeshi citizen.
The Pakistan Prime Minister conveyed his warm wishes to his Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina and expressed his desire to strengthen the bilateral relationship with Bangladesh.
In the regional context, the Pakistan prime minister observed that the SAARC has immense potential for regional development, trade, cooperation, and collaboration.
He expressed his utmost desire to see the SAARC act as a means of progress and prosperity in the region.
He also reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to the principles and objectives of the SAARC Charter and stated that Pakistan would continue to play its part in strengthening the SAARC’s activities.
The secretary general thanked the Pakistan prime minister for receiving him and briefed him on his aspirations for making the SAARC an effective platform for regional cooperation.
He also thanked the Prime Minister for the warm hospitality extended to the delegation.
