Dhaka, Rangpur zoos announced closure to contain Covid surge

The Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock on Friday announced closure of the Dhaka National and Rangpur Zoos to contain the second wave of the deadly coronavirus in the country.
The zoos will remain closed until further notice comes in this regard and the concerned people have been asked to help implementing the directives, the fisheries and livestock ministry came up with the announcement in a notice today.
Fisheries and Livestock Minister SM Rezaul Karim said the decision was taken to prevent the spread of the virus through the visitors. The government has been taking all necessary decision to tackle the second wave of the virus, he added.
To take the situation under control, he said the government has already issued 18-point directives and called upon everyone to abide by the guideline.
Earlier on March 20 last year, the minister also announced closure of the Dhaka and Rangpur zoos on the same ground.
Later, considering the issue of mental refreshment of the city dwellers, the authority opened the door of the national zoo for the visitors on November 1 in the same year on condition of obeying the health guideline.
