Govt acts inhumanly not letting Khaleda’s treatment abroad: Fakhrul

The government has taken a disgusting and inhuman decision not allowing BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia to go abroad for better treatment, party’s Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir alleged on Tuesday.

Brushing aside the lame argument of the government, Fakhrul said there are instances of taking convicted accused abroad for treatment but the government is spreading misleading information to puzzle the people.

ASM Abdur Rab, who is the first person to hoist the Flag of Bangladesh on March 2, 1971, was taken to Germany in 1979 from jail for treatment, he said.

Former home affairs and health minister Mohammad Nasim was also taken abroad in 2008 though he was a convicted accused at that time for treatment, Fakhrul cited the instances while addressing a press conference at Khaleda Zia’s Gulshan office in Dhaka this noon.

“Government takes a nasty and inhuman stance by not allowing our leader’s treatment abroad,” he said, expressing his party’s condemnation of the government for such a decision.

“Sheikh Mujibur Rahman belonged to the generosity and he ensured overall facilities to his political opponent. Even, he freed some convicted accused and helped them in many ways,” he said.

Awami League would have belonged to the generosity, it would release Khaleda Zia and pave the path for her better treatment abroad, the BNP leader said.

“Awami League speaks about democracy but it does not believe in it as when the party comes to power, it hangs on to the state power forcibly,” he said.

He said some influential people within the government including ministers are very much vocal in making misleading and discourteous remarks against Khaleda Zia and called upon them to refrain from such practices.

“Discourteous and unacceptable remarks are being made. Please hold your tongues, otherwise people will pay you a right answer at an appropriate time,” the BNP leader said.
