Babul Akter, former superintendent of police, was placed on a five-day remand on Wednesday in connection with the sensational murder of his wife Mahmuda Khanam Mitu.
Chattogram Metropolitan Magistrate Sarwar Jahan passed the order when Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) placed Babul before his court with a seven-day remand prayer, reports our Chattogram correspondent.
In the remand prayer, PIB said that the accused needs to be questioned to find out fact and motive behind the killing. On completing of the hearing, the court granted the five-day remand.
Earlier in the day, a case was filed against eight people including Babul in connection with the death of his wife, who was killed in 2016.
After filing the case with Panchlaish Police Station this noon, Mitu’s father Mosharraf Hossain told the newsmen that Babul has link with the murder and thus he (Mosharraf) filed the case showing him as prime accused.
Earlier on Tuesday night, PBI detained the former police superintendent of police following an investigation that made it clear that he has an involvement in his wife’s murder.
Santosh Kumar Chakma, investigating officer of the case, said Babul himself came to the PBI office in Mansurabad on Tuesday afternoon to know the progress of the case.
Meanwhile, the PBI placed the final report of the murder case this afternoon complying with a High Court order.
Mitu was murdered in broad day light in Chattograme city on June 5, 2016.
Kamrul Islam Musa alias Musa Sikdar, who was an informer of Babul, stab and shoot her dead.
After the killing, Babul sued three unidentified men and detectives have arrested five persons including Musa's elder brother Saidul Sikder Shakur.
The rest are Motaleb Mia Wasim, Anwar Hossain, Ehteshamul Haque alias Bhola, and Md Shahjahan.
