Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Md Shahab Uddin on Sunday said the government is conducting regular drives to recover illegally occupied forest land, prevent the cutting of hills and mounds, halt operations of unlicensed brick kilns, and stop the use of banned polythene.

The government is also working with due diligence to control the overall environmental pollution and conserve biodiversity.

The minister made the comments while speaking as the chief guest at a coordination meeting of the divisional commissioners organised by the Cabinet Division at the meeting room of the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change at the Secretariat, reads a press release.

The government is making the people aware of the adverse impacts of climate change, said the minister.

By doing so, the government will be successful in safeguarding the environment as well as dealing with other natural disasters like chronic floods and cyclones, he observed.

The minister requested the divisional commissioners to instruct the deputy commissioners concerned to complete the process of declaring reserved forests.

Deputy Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Habibun Nahar spoke at the event, with Secretary of the ministry Ziaul Hasan in the chair.
