A mobile court in Chattogram has fined 80 people in the city for not wearing masks.

Five magistrates conducted a drive in the port city’s Natun Bridge, Alankar, Dewan Hut, Kotwali, Rail Station, Oxygen and CRB areas on Monday and fined the residents.

Over the last few days, the number of Covid-19 infected patients has been gradually increasing in Chattogram.

After testing 1,260 samples in nine labs, a total of 242 people in Chattogram were detected positive for the coronavirus in the last 24 hours. This is the highest number of infections identified in the city in the second wave of the coronavirus.

Among the newly detected patients, Chittagong University Lab tested 148 and confirmed 58, Bangladesh Institute of Tropical and Infests Disease (BITID) lab tested 277 and confirmed 14, Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) lab tested 356 and confirmed 59, and Chittagong Veterinary and Animal Science University (CVASU) tested 42 and confirmed nine infections.

Moreover, Imperial Hospital tested 137 patients and confirmed 46, Chevron Clinical Lab tested 273 and confirmed 50, and Maa O Shishu Hospital tested 31 and confirmed six Covid-19 patients.

Chattogram Civil Surgeon Dr Sheikh Fazle Rabbi confirmed the news and said the rate of new Covid-19 infections is soaring in region.

“The total number of infected patients in Chattogram is 23,870, second after Dhaka,” he said, adding that not maintaining social distance and going out without masks are the main reasons for this.
