Admission seekers for government and nongovernment schools from class one to nine will be enrolled through lottery this year due to the outbreak of coronavirus.
Education Minister Dipu Moni came up with the announcement at a virtual press conference this noon.
Further detail regarding the enrolment process will be known on December 7, the education minister said in the press conference.
Earlier, the department of secondary and higher education made several proposals including lottery for the enrolment and the government, at last, has chosen the system to avoid the risk of spreading infection of coronavirus.
Dipu Moni said the catchment area has been increased 10 percent this year that means 50 percent admission seekers from the area of a respective school will be able to get enrolled.
In the previous years, 40 percent of admission seekers from the catchment area were enrolled for and the students could give only one name of school for the lottery.
From now, the students can give five names of schools in the lottery under the cluster based admission system, she said.
