The Department of Explosives under the Energy and Mineral Resources Division has formed a three-member committee to investigate the building blast in the capital’s Maghbazar.
The committee includes Abul Kalam Azad, chief inspector of the explosives, Md Abdul Hannan, deputy chief explosives inspector, and SM Sakhawat Hossain, assistant explosives inspector.
“Our team visited the spot last night,” Azad said.
“The situation was fragile. It is not easy to say what caused such a multi-explosion,” he added.
“Primarily, we can doubt that the accident occurred by LPG cylinder explosion, AC explosion, gas leakage, transformer explosion - but there was no such big explosion in any of them before,” he said.
Azad said, a combination of different types of gas might account for the blast. Existence of hydrocarbon was found in the accident venue, he informed.
The investigation committee will go to the spot today (Monday), and they are asked to submit the probe report within seven working days.
