Man held with gold worth Tk 1.43 crore in Chattogram

Law enforcers claimed to have detained a man and recovered gold bars worth Tk 1.43 crore from his possession in Station Road area of Chattogram city on Friday night.
The detainee is identified as Uttam Sen, 35, a resident of Patia upazila of the district, a local correspondent reports quoting Mohammad Mohsin, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station.
Sensing suspicious movement of Uttam at Station road area last night, police first challenged him and recovered the gold bars from his possession, the OC said.
The market price of the gold is estimated around Tk 1.43, the police official added.
During primary interrogation, the detainee confessed that he was attempting to take the gold bars, owned by one Sanjit Dhar, to Dhaka with a plan to smuggle it out of the country, OC Mohsin said.
On information of the recovery, Sanjit Dhar went into hiding, he added.
