Coronavirus update

Bangladesh recorded 29 more deaths from the novel coronavirus during the last 24 hours until Sunday morning.

Besides, 1,788 new cases from the virus were detected during the same period, taking the number of the total infected people to 4, 62,407, said a press release of Directorate General of Health Service (DGHS).

The total death toll, with the fresh 29, now rose to 6,609, the DGHS said in the press release.

Tests of 13, 737 samples were conducted at different government approved laboratories in the last 24 hours and 13 percent of people found positive for the virus, it said.

Around 2, 287 patients, who were undergoing treatment at different hospitals across the country, recovered from the disease in the same time, taking the number of the total recovery to 3, 78,172, DGHS said.

Bangladesh first reported coronavirus case on March 8 and the number of infection reached 300,000 by August 26.

The first death was reported on March 18 and the death toll exceeded 6,000 on November 4.
