Finally, the government has extended the time for tax return by one month to December 31 this year, a development that will ease the concern of people who are yet to submit their files due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The National Board of Revenue issued a notification in this regard on Monday.
NBR Chairman Abu Hena Md Rahmatul Muneem shared the development while talking to the newsmen at his Segunbagicha office in Dhaka this afternoon.
The deadline was extended for a month considering the evolving situation of the coronavirus outbreak, he added.
while addressing a press conference, the NBR chairman announced not to extend the income tax return submission deadline of November 30.
He said that the number of tax return grew to Tk63, 199 till November 26 this year compared to the same period of the previous year.
However, the income tax decreased by Tk193 crore during the same time, the NBR chairman said.
The time for submission of tax return without any penalty begins from July 1 and it will end tomorrow.
Claiming that the NBR is working to make the tax return submission system easer, Muneem said the NBR will introduce a single page return form in the next year so that the tax payers can submit the return easily.
The NBR every year organises tax fair but this year it has failed to do so due to the outbreak of the coronavirus.
