Govt reschedules Ashura holiday to Friday

The government has rescheduled the holy Ashura holiday to Friday, August 20, from the previously set Thursday.
The Ministry of Public Administration issued a notification in this regard on Wednesday.
Earlier, the National Moon Sighting Committee announced that this year the holy Ashura will be observed across the country on August 20.
The holy month of Dhul-Haj completed in 30 days on August 10, it said, adding that the holy month of Muharram was counted from August 11.
Ashura is observed on the 10th of Muharram to commemorate the Karbala tragedy in which Hazrat Imam Hossain (RA), grandson of Prophet Muhammad (SM), and his family members and followers embraced martyrdom.
Meanwhile, the Religious Affairs Ministry has restricted Tazia marches, processions and rallies on the occasion of Ashura.
However, all other necessary religious rituals can be performed maintaining health protocols, it said on Tuesday.
