Dhaka (Dec 5, 2020): Miscreants have vandalised a partial part of under constructing sculpture of Bangabandhu at Kushtia town today when some religion-based organisations and government are at loggerheads over this issue.
Miscreants dismantled some parts of the under-construction sculpture of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Panch Rasta intersection of Kushtia town last night, Superintendent of police in the district SM Tanvir told a Bangla daily newspaper.
“We collected CCTV footage that shows two people carried out the vandalism around 2:00am last night. We are trying to identify them and they will be brought under the law,” the police official said.
BSS Adds: Amid the ongoing debate and criticism over the sculpture of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader today said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is handling the matter.
“We are in power. It will not be wise to show impatience abruptly over any issue. The prime minister is handling the matter. She will face everything with courage as like as she tackled coronavirus pandemic,” he added.
Quader said there are sculptures in many countries across the world and even in Muslim countries as well.
If establishing sculptures is not conflicting with Islam in those countries, why it will be in Bangladesh, he questioned.
He was while talking to reporters after paying tributes to Huseyn Shaheed Suhrawardy by placing a wreath at his grave at ‘Tin Netar Mazar’ near Doyel Chattar here on the late leader’s 57th death anniversary.
