BI Report

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has asked the authorities concerned to find out a way to reduce the gap between the two doses of coronavirus vaccine.

The prime minister came up with the instruction while chairing the regular weekly cabinet meeting, Cabinet Secretary Khandaker Anwarul Islam told at a press conference after the meeting on Monday.

The prime minister attended the meeting virtually from her official residence Ganobhaban and others from the Cabinet Room of the Secretariat.

The prime minister has instructed to find out a way to reduce the gap between the first and second dose of vaccine for 15 or 20 days, Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque, told reports after taking part in the press conference over the issue.

The second dose of the vaccine is being injected 15 days after the first dose in different countries in the world, he said. “We will do it if possible,” he added.

The state-run news agency BSS on Sunday reported that around 2.24 crore people have been administered the coronavirus vaccine so far.

Of them, 1,66,61,412 people received the first dose while 65,75,473 people were given the second dose.

PM orders speeding up vaccination of industrial workers, families

UNB Adds: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina directed the authorities concerned to design a separate programme to bring the industrial workers and their families under the Covid-19 vaccination coverage soon.

“A special discussion was held over the industrial workers today (in the meeting)…. Since Bangladesh would get six crore doses of vaccine from Sinopharm as per an agreement signed by the Health Ministry, the Prime Minister gave the instruction to vaccinate the workers quickly bringing them under a separate programme,” said the Cabinet Secretary.

Besides, the PM said that she would herself oversee the matter.

“The Prime Minister has given instruction to vaccinate not only the workers but also their family members as forerunners,” said Anwarul Islam.
