Oct 16 to be observed as Sheikh Russel Day

The government has announced that October 16 will be observed as Sheikh Russel Day to commemorate the youngest child of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, who was assassinated along with other family members at his home on August 15, 1975.
The approval was given at a regular cabinet meeting on Monday with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.
Cabinet Secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam confirmed the matter to reporters after the meeting.
“The ICT ministry placed the proposal to observe Sheikh Russel Day as an ‘A’ category day,” he said.
The day will be observed nationally on October 16 every year, he added.
The meeting also gave final approval to the draft of the Judge Salary and Benefits Act and Travel Allowance Act 2021 of the Bangladesh Supreme Court.
