Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK) will demolish 3,500 risky and illegal buildings, said ABM Amanullah Nuri, its chairman, on Saturday.
He, however, did not mention the time when RAJUK will begin the demolition and complete the tasks.
Nuri was talking to reporters while inspecting the demolition work of a tilted building at Old Dhaka on Saturday, according to a press release sent by RAJUK.
“There are 3,500 risky and illegal buildings under the two city corporations in Dhaka. Besides, 1,000 buildings are under investigation. We are working on this. This number may increase further,” said the RAJUK chairman.
“If Old Dhaka is to be brought in the plan, almost all the buildings have to be demolished. At the beginning of Dhaka there was no plan. RAJUK has taken a plan for Old Dhaka. The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has assured us to cooperate.”
Farid Ahmed, chief executive officer of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), and other officials of RAJUK and DSCC were present during his visit.
