Dhaka (Dec 9, 2020): The death and infection caused by the novel coronavirus came down slightly in the last 24 hours ending 8:00am on Wednesday compared to the just passed 24 hours, data shows.

The deadly coronavirus claimed a total 24 lives during the last 24 hours while infected 2,159 at the same period, said a press statement of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The deadly virus took 32 lives and infected 2, 202 people at different parts across the country including capital Dhaka in the last 24 hours ending 8:00am on Tuesday.

With the update figure, the total number of death case rose to 6, 930 while the total infection stood at 4, 84,104, the DGHS said.

Around 17,042 samples were tested at different government authorised laboratories across the country and of them a total of 2,159 people found positive for the virus.

A total of 4,772 people were released from different hospitals across the country after their recovery from the disease, pushing the total recovery to 4, 05, 966, the press statement said.

The data shows the overall recovery rate 83.86 percent while the positive rate 12.67 percent.

According to the DGHS, a total of 230 people died from Covid-19 in the past week (Dec 1-7), up from just 228 a week ago.

The DGHS data also shows a total of 14, 811 people found Covid-19 infected in the last week (Dec 1-7), down from 15, 172 in the previous week (Nov 30-.24).

This weekly figure indicates that the death and infection rates from the coronavirus remains almost the same in the last two weeks in Bangladesh.

In Bangladesh, the first coronavirus case was detected on March 8 and the first death case was recorded just after 10 days of the same month.
