BRAC bank reached the milestone of building a network of 500 agent banking outlets, according to a press release of the bank issued on Wednesday.

The bank inaugurated 50 new agent banking outlets in 27 districts across the country in a single event held over a digital platform to join the milestone of 500.

Commenting on this achievement, the Managing Director and CEO of BRAC Bank, Selim RF Hussain, said: “We are proud to have reached the milestone of opening 500 Agent Banking within a short period of time. I would thank all our agent banking partners and my agent banking colleagues for this remarkable achievement.”

The number of the bank’s agent banking outlets stands at 500 to date, starting from October 2018 with 10 outlets in 8 divisions.

BRAC Bank, a pioneer in SME banking, currently serves its customers through 187 branches, 456 SME unit offices, and 374 ATM and CDM booths across the country. Earlier, the bank held a digital event to open 50 new agent banking outlets in 27 districts reaching 500 Agent Banking outlets in 64 districts.

Nazmur Rahim, head of Alternate Banking Channel of BRAC Bank, said: “BRAC Bank is making relentless efforts to drive financial inclusion across the country. Agent banking is an ideal model to take the banking services to a customer’s neighborhood, especially benefitting the disadvantaged and lower-income people in remote locations.”

He said: “Our agents are our development partners, our representative to the mass people. Together we pledge to make more contributions to the sustainable development of the country.”

BRAC Bank has a dedicated agent banking app that helps the outlets provide services that other commercial banks can’t. It also developed an agent banking manual for its partners so that their collective services promise advanced technology-based banking experience and reliable customer service.

It will help the bank become a preferred institution of trust and confidence among people from all walks of life, Rahim added.

BRAC Bank management also expressed gratitude to the government, the Bangladesh Bank, and other regulatory authorities at the event.
