Bangladesh Bank restricts foreign trips of staff

Except for some emergency travels, foreign trips of Bangladesh Bank officials and employees at the expense of the central bank have been cancelled.

However, foreign trips for medical treatment and hajj with own expenses are allowed, according to an internal instruction of Bangladesh Bank.

The central bank issued a circular to this effect on Wednesday.

The decision comes in the light of a recent government directive to adopt an austerity policy to reduce pressure on foreign reserves.

With this, all earlier issued travel orders by the central bank are now cancelled.
