Newly minted notes of Tk 2 and Tk 5 denominations signed by senior Finance Secretary Abdur Rauf Talukder would come into circulation on Thursday (July 15).
These notes — printed by the Security Printing Corporation of Bangladesh — will be issued by Bangladesh Bank headquarters in Motijheel and will be released from other offices of the central bank, in phases.
The notes will depict old designs. The only change is a new signature there.
The colour, measurement, watermark, design and other security features of the new notes will remain the same as they are in the current notes.
In addition to the newly printed notes, old notes and coins of the same denominations will remain in circulation, an official said.
It is worth citing here that one, two and 5 taka denominating notes are considered as government currency and are issued by the Ministry of Finance. The Finance Secretary signs the notes printed by the Security Printing Corporation of Bangladesh.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh Bank issues notes denominating Tk 10, Tk 20, Tk 50, Tk 100, Tk 200, Tk 500 and Tk 1,000 respectively. The notes issued by Bangladesh Bank bear the signature of the governor.
