In an effort to discourage luxury spending and save foreign currency, the government has proposed to increase the import duty on birds.
Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal came up with the proposal while unveiling the national budget for fiscal 2022-23 in the National Parliament on Thursday.
“At present, the country is importing luxurious birds, which attracts 5 percent import duty,” the minister said.
“Since birds are luxurious, I am proposing to increase the import duty from 5 percent to 25 percent on those,” he added.
The government also proposes to give VAT exemption at trading stage to those animal feeds which are already enjoying exemption at import and manufacturing stage.
