Leading mobile phone operator Grameenphone and its customer service officials were sued on Sunday by police for breaching customer privacy.

The case was filed with the Hatirjheel police station on Monday, following a customer's complaint, according to Harun-Ur-Rashid, deputy commissioner of Tejgaon Zone police.

A GP customer care official, Rubel Mahmud Anik, along with Parvin Akter Nupur, was taking money from people against confidential data of the Grameenphone customers.

Anik and Parvin have already been in police custody since they were arrested on December 9. They were shown arrested in the case.

Grameenphone, as an organisation, Anik and Parvin have been made accused in the case.

Meanwhile, GP in a statement said, "Grameenphone maintains the strictest data protection policies and systems. We have learned from media that one GP franchise employee (GPCF) is under police investigation in connection with alleged fraudulent activities.

“Grameenphone is fully committed to supporting law enforcement agencies to prevent fraud," added.
