Eastern Bank Ltd (EBL), a leading private sector bank of the country, has been awarded the prestigious Bank of the Year 2020 Bangladesh title by The Banker.

The Banker is an English-language monthly international financial affairs publication.

The virtual award ceremony was held on Wednesday, reads a press release.

Ali Reza Iftekhar, managing director and CEO of EBL and Ziaul Karim, head of Communications and External Affairs, were present at the event.

Commenting on accolade, Ali Reza Iftekhar said, “It has been an honour and privilege to have received the coveted Bank of the Year 2020 award for Bangladesh by The Banker.

“Winning a truly global award is a testimony to our commitment to the society we operate in, our service excellence, best-in-class banking products and our passion for performance,” he further said.

Iftekhar thanked his customers, shareholders, forward-looking board of directors, and regulators, particularly the Bangladesh Bank for their faith, support and guidance.

“This recognition from the world’s longest running international banking awards is a testament to the strong management, sound business model, banking innovations and prudent risk approach of EBL,” he added.

The Banker is read in over 180 countries and owned by The Financial Times Ltd. Since 1926, each year, The Banker’s Bank of the Year Awards recognises the best performing banks across the world.
